The ability to quickly change (QC) any system is a huge time saver and we have been doing this for years with standard systems.
However, due to the short length of the stiff material used to construct a Chod Rig, until the advent of krimps, it was always a very complicated and frustrating knot to tie; especially on very short chods.
Crimping our Chod Mouth Trap filament has become an increasingly popular way to create a QC chod using our standard 0.6mm crimps normally associated with our popular Boom material when creating Spinner Rigs.
The size of these standard krimps wasn't ideal but so far it served a purpose.
The Korda product development team have now created a specific krimp for easily tying clean and tidy Chod Rigs.
The new krimps are 40% smaller than the standard version and can be used with the 15lb, 20lb and 25lb versions of our Mouth Trap Chod filament which creates a QC loop stronger than any knot; this is especially important with such a short leader, where the knot pressure is maximum.
These small crimps can be used with existing crimping tools in the range and are available in two sizes: 0.5mm and 0.6mm
Crimping is a great way to get precise, strong connections, especially when using stiffer and/or thicker materials that can be difficult to tie effectively – it also allows you to get the right hook link length every time, which is especially useful for chod rigs.
You need to make sure you're using the correct bend size for your mouth trap—if the bend is too large, it may slip. We recommend using the XS 0.5mm with the 15-pound and 20-pound mouthguards, while the small 0.6mm version is used with the heavier 25-pound filament.
They come in a neat little box with a sliding lid, which helps prevent spills, with 50 Krimps in each pack.
