Description

The classic pear lead can be cast very, very far, almost as far as the Distance Casting model, and is less affected by crosswinds thanks to its compact shape.

This means the pear lead is suitable for most carp fishing situations, especially when fishing up to the limit of your casting ability. Its squat shape can be used to your advantage on muddy bottoms.

Try using a very light pear lead, such as 28g or 56g (1oz or 2oz), and letting it sink into the mud: this will significantly increase resistance against a moving carp. Essentially, what feels like a light lead in the hand turns into a "heavy" lead during fishing. Thanks to its broad, rounded end, it's easier to feel the moment the lead hits the bottom than with thinner or pointed leads. If you're new to this technique, this type of lead will make the task easier.

If you don't know what we mean, just check out carp fishing magazines: they always show you how it's done!

We rely on this technique so much that we'd never leave the hookbait in the water without feeling the lead hit the bottom. The pear-shaped lead is also ideal for use in solid PVA bags because it can be pushed into one of the corners. This makes the bag heavier at the tip and therefore more accurate when casting.
